The project

Context. Cocolocks is a hair salon on Warrigal Road, Oakleigh, built around natural beauty. The tenancy is small, so every fixed element had to earn its space.

Light natural timber runs from the reception counter through the bulkhead lining to the custom workstations. Using one material throughout keeps a small salon calm and holds the space together.

Each workstation was designed as a custom, two-sided piece hung from ceiling-mounted sliding tracks, with concealed pull-out trays. Stations can be moved aside or reconfigured, so the salon can seat more stylists at once and change its layout as the business grows.

Form. Curves appear throughout, from the arched mirrors to the pearlescent lighting and even rounded power outlets, so the room feels gentle and unhurried.

Detail. Light timber runs from the reception counter through the bulkhead lining to the display joinery, which holds the space together.
