Blackhearts & Sparrows Elwood - Retail Interior Design

Blackhearts & Sparrows wanted their Elwood store to offer more than a typical wine shopping experience. Sam approached the project as an opportunity to create a sensory, slow-paced environment that mirrors the brand’s curated approach to wine.

The design draws on Mediterranean coastal cues, using gentle blues, earthy tones and warm textured surfaces to create a space that feels relaxed, refined and naturally inviting. Every element was selected to evoke a sense of ease. Soft curves, balanced lighting and material layering guide customers through the space and frame key product moments without overwhelming the interior.

Sam’s focus was on building atmosphere as much as function. The layout encourages discovery, with subtle transitions between zones and display moments that celebrate the brand’s mix of boutique wines, craft spirits and limited releases.

This design was recognised with a Bronze award in the Commercial Space Aesthetics category at the 2024 International Architecture & Design Awards.
